Work and Study Program
Permaculture W&S Program

“Follow the rules of Nature
And everything
Will happen
By itself”

Lao Tsu, Tao Te Ching

Permaculture, closely linked to the spirit of Tao, is about designing and leading a sustainable way of living, taking care of the earth and taking care of the people while maintaining the basic holistic & natural attitude that got lost in the industrialized modern agriculture. The permaculture methods involve land rehabilitation, waste water treatment, organic food production, choice of energy efficient solutions and overall sustainable management of resources.

Tao’s Center is practicing and promoting ecological and environmental awareness, and thus we have created here a Permaculture project, while connecting it to the local community and its traditional agriculture methods, supporting and preserving the local ecosystem. Eventually we aim at creating a permaculture demonstration site, making it a base for raising awareness about environmental issues all around the area, taking part in the global effort of preserving and maintaining the planet.

As part of this effort we created a Work & Study program specifically focused on permaculture, a practical training at the nuts and bolts of gardening and dryland recovery - mulching, composting, pruning, stone fencing, planting, weeding, earth works, maintenance, assisting in events and workshops – there is a place for the skills and the enthusiasm of everyone!

The project is led by Elena Symeonidou, who studied permaculture Design with Bill Mollison, the father of permaculture, and Geoff Lawton the managing director of the Permaculture Institute of Australia and leader of the project Greening the Desert in Jordan.

Except for getting acquainted with the Permaculture principles & practice, Tao’s Work & Study program is meant to enable its participants a space for self growth, attending both body and mind, which is done through participation in Tao’s daily activities, with daily schedule as follows:
09:30 Arrival to the center
10:00 – 10:30 Morning Zazen
10:30 – 11:30 Qi Gong
